To all who have been impacted by disease,

Our health and livelihood have been hit in one big way or another. How many times do we wish that this had never happened, and that it was all a bad dream? If only scientists could find the answers by doing more research, devising better treatments, creating safer vaccines, and finding cures. If only we could find a path through the financial challenges in times of illness and move on to a better way of life. If only there was a way for caregivers to balance work with the time needed to care for a loved one and then to somehow find a moment for rest. If only we could have a second chance at life.
Both in sickness and in health, a second chance is worth fighting. Together "we the people" are a force for positive change. As disease advocates, we make progress when ideas and funding move forward to their intended destination. Time is of the essence for the patient in search of a cure, the caregiver in hope of relief, and the impacted family struggling to hold onto house and home. There is not a day to waste.
Year after year how many of us have made the pilgrimage to our state and nations capital in order to lobby on behalf of the health issues which impact our lives? More often than not it seems that our many "asks" are rarely attended to or resolved when we meet with our political representatives. Families struggling with life or death issues cannot be marginalized. Their concerns need to be heard and their issues need proper attention. Further, progress on behalf of those impacted by disease and degenerative illness must be made expeditiously.

The days of traveling to our state capitols and Washington DC as lobbyists to ask our elected officials for help are over. We must now meet our political representatives in the political arena. The Cure Party will meet our political representatives not as constituents, but rather as equals and adversaries. The intention of "The Cure Party" is to cultivate a steady stream of grassroots candidates directly from our leading disease advocates. The best and brightest advocates must be elected to the Senate and Congressional positions where they can affect the greatest change.
Based on our extrapolations it is estimated that there may be over 143 million US Citizens diagnosed and impacted by life threatening disease, degenerative illness, and other chronic life compromising health conditions. Of course without conclusive comprehensive demographic studies made on all serious diseases and illness these numbers may be conservative. The Cure Party aspires to become the first political movement designed exclusively to champion the people and families impacted by disease, and to tackle the issues which will improve their way of life.
We are the change that we have been waiting for. Together one vote at a time, we can save ourselves.
